When Goodwin finds out, he decides momentarily to withdraw the horse from competition, but then changes his mind. The horse wins, all is forgiven, but Peter Goodwin dies from the excitement. At the funeral, Peter's eulogy is read by a member of the Dillon family who'd been in a feud with Peter for nearly 70 years.Walter Brennan won one of his three Academy Awards for his work in the film.
